SD Tarzan by Heart of a Cowgirl Photography

The spring heralds a new energy and opportunities for renewal. This Spring Equinox created spacious energy in my heart. I am noticing a lifting of the heaviness and instead feeling joy in the midst of turbulent times. No matter how small, joy is never insignificant. Remember that!

Nature is always ready to heal and to teach. Standing on the wet earth, feeling the sunshine on my face and the breeze on my cheeks, I transport myself wholeheartedly into this present moment. Into RIGHT NOW. Although there is grief, confusion and a struggle to understand why life unfolds the way it does, there is also this sunlight and this airiness and my fingers running through my horse’s mane. They coexist in this dimension and all of it is here to be experienced with kindness, openness and curiosity.

Research into the healing properties of nature has shown that being in nature can directly impact our stress levels and positively regulate physiological markers such as blood pressure and heart rate. Nature offers us the opportunity to connect with something larger than ourselves and take a mental break from the pressures of everyday life. We can also go out in nature to improve the moment and distract from emotions so intense that we aren’t able to do more than ride them out for now.

Nature helps me to understand the flow of seasons, the regularity of change and how connections are created, broken and created again. My soul awakens again when I look at the leaves in the trees and feel the ground under my feet. I can’t wait to sit around a fire again in the backyard!

Nature helps me to heal from emotional pain and provides a safe landing place for me after a hectic or draining day. It is my privilege to share this feeling with others visiting our farm. Being authentic is being able to walk the walk. When I walk these paths, pause to spend time with the herd or realize that there is a still and graceful part of me which the animals connect to, I learn again. Nature is always ready to heal and to teach.
